Welcome to the 2009 - 2010 School Year!

This will be an exciting year of learning for your child.  Your child will be introduced to a variety of new learning experiences and opportunities for growth.  It is our goal to make this year a success for your child and with your help – we know we can achieve it!

In addition to what your child is learning in class, they will be expected to complete various homework assignments each night.  Please try to work with your child in reaching this goal by providing a workspace and a quiet environment.  It is very important that your child knows that you value this time and encourage his or her success.  In an effort to assure homework is completed and reviewed, your child will be receiving a homework planner which will need to be signed each night by you.

Every Friday your child will be bringing home his or her “Friday Folder” with all of the current information from Sandburg Elementary as well as assignments that they have completed for the week.  Please take some time to look through the work and discuss with your child his or her accomplishments and/or difficulties.

Please know that we encourage a dialogue between us regarding your child’s progress throughout the year.  We are available for conferences by appointment only.  To set up an appointment you may contact Ms. Magruder at lmagruder@lps.k12.co.us or Ms. Clark at sclark@lps.k12.co.us.  We may also be contaced via phone at 303-347-4675.  We are also very excited to announce another means of communication for the ’08 – ’09 school year.  We have established a classroom web site.  This web site will provide you with the homework assignments as well as general information on what we are currently learning and working on.  The address for our classroom web site is http://www.littletonpublicschools.net/Home/tabid/845/Default.aspx.

Please know that we will do everything we can to teach your child the skills he or she needs to excel in the 5th grade.  With this pledge, we ask that you make the commitment to reinforce these skills at home.  From all of our efforts your child can further develop the necessary skills and confidence to succeed throughout the school year and in the future.
