We have started Unit 6. A big focus in this unit is long division. This is a new concept for most students. It is not unusual for students to have some struggle in understanding it and It often takes many repeated experiences to fully grasp. The objectives for this unit are:
- Practice latitude and longitude skills
- Solve whole-number division problems
- Understand remainders in division and express remainders as fractions and quotients as mixed numbers
- Use ordered pairs to locate and name points on a coordinate grid
- Indentify types of angles: acute, obtuse, reflex, straight
- Make turns and fractions of turns; relate turns to angles
- Use a circle and half-circle protractor to measure and draw angles
- Solve multiplications and division number stories
Please refer to the Unit 6 Family Letter for vocbulary specific to this unit.
At he conclusion of Unit 6, we will be taking a mid-year assessment reviewing all the major concepts we have covered so far this year.
