HARMON'S HAPPENINGS
MARCH 2010
Our wagon trains reached their final destinations without losing anyone with our pioneer families! It was such a tough trip. We faced many obstacles and dangers along the way i.e. sandstorms, losing livestock, unfriendly Indians, chickenpox and rattlesnake bites. We pulled together as families and settled into our new homes out west! We're now doing a very detailed study of Littleton and how it got it's name along with the history of our town. Our trip to the Littleton Historical Museum was amazing! A BIG thank you to all of those parents who attended. I'm afraid to name them because I might forget some of you! :) Just know that we enjoyed your company as you took your individual groups around the Museum and saw what it was like to live here long ago in the 1800's.
We are busily engaged in writing our autobiographies and making "sand babies". What is a sand baby you might ask? Well, we take the weights that each student is and pour lbs. and oz. of sand into a a plastic bag and decorate it to look and weigh like we did when we were babies. We are doing alot of comparing weights from as small as 4 lbs. to as big as 11 lbs that some students weighed in at! It is so fun to hold "ourselves" as sand babies.
After Spring Break we will become Paleontologists! We will be attending Dinosaur Ridge in Morrison for our field trip to hunt for fossils!. We will be making dioramas of our dinosuar that we are researching as well as writing a report about that dinosaur. The highlight of the year is our dinosaur program called "Fossils and Footprints" where we will be singing songs about dinosaurs along with explaining our dinosaur dioramas and reports to our families and friends. The date will be announced soon.....be looking for information on this fun evening with our student paleontologists!!
HAVE A SAFE AND FUN SPRING BREAK!!!
