Math homework is given at the beginning of each unit in a packet format. Math homework is assigned Monday through Thursday, unless we are at the end of a unit where there are two days of review and assessment. The assigned homework should be completed, torn out of the packet, and turned in the next day. Students should write the assigned homework for the night in their planner each day. If a homework page (Home Link) asks you to bring items in, please do not. At school, we have the materials we need for each lesson.
Lastly, math homework is not meant to be a frustrating experience for parents and students. Please use the family letters given out at the beginning of the year or the link on this page to guide you. If that doesn't work, parents can write a note on the homework and turn it in. If I feel that it is crucial that the student complete the page, I will help them with it. However, sometimes in the Everyday Math curriculum concepts are being introduced, but it is not critical that they completely understand the concept. Either later on in the year or next year the concept will be retaught. I understand that Everyday Math can be confusing for those of us taught with traditional methods. However, after teaching the curriculum for a few years, I see the "method behind the madness."
