“Scoop for a Scoop”
Sandburg Students Celebrate Reading!

Friday, April 4th, over 160 Sandburg student readers and writers enjoyed ice cream sundaes in our library to celebrate reading! Students who read a book over Spring Break and wrote a “scoop” about the story they read joined Mrs. Tejan, Mrs. Mosley and friends for a scoop of ice cream with toppings. We all had a wonderful time, celebrating our love of books! Thank you to moms Sara Albee, Emily Jones, and Marnie Jordan for scooping up the treats!
 Mark Ludy's Visit Minimize

Our staff and students certainly enjoyed the visit from author and illustrator, Mark Ludy on February 28. He shared with us insightful thoughts about reading, writing, and the creative process. The kids loved his sound effects and were in awe of his artistic talent. Something particularly fun for our students is that Mr. Ludy attended Sandburg for kindergarten, first, and second grade and shared with the students his memories. Thank you to the PTO for helping fund Mr. Ludy's visit to our school. If you would like to learn more about Mr. Ludy and his art studio in Windsor, click here to visit his website.

 Book Fair Report Minimize

Thank you to the many Sandburg students and their families who enthusiastically supported our Sandburg Book Fair! It was wonderful fun to welcome so many students and their moms and dads for Family Night as well!

Thank you to the many volunteers who helped decorate our library for the Book Fair Blizzard! The library did look wintry! Volunteers also helped set up the fair, sell books to students, help students make book selections, as well as take down the fair in enough time to have classes come for Friday story time and checkout! Our teachers especially thank the many students who chose books for their teacher’s classroom collections. A special thank you to Mrs. Mosley and Mrs. Albee for managing this fundraiser and helping Mrs. Tejan. The proceeds from this event will benefit our school library and we thank you all for your time and support! It was a great success!

 We love our library!

A study by the Colorado State Library Research Service found that students in schools with well-staffed library media programs average reading scores of five to ten points higher than those without such staffing. The study found that students are likely to earn higher reading scores if:

  • Their schools have state-endorsed library media specialists
  • Their school library media specialists are supported by volunteers
  • Their library media specialists play a vital instructional role, complementing the work of classroom teachers
  • Their school library media programs incorporate the latest information technology.
