 Scoop for a ScoopMinimize

Enjoy reading a book of your choice over Spring Break. If the book is read to you as a read-aloud, that counts as well! Then, write a "scoop" for Mrs. Tejan. What was your favorite part of the story or did you have a favorite character? How about the illustrations? Could you create an illustration for your story?

Students should complete the "Scoop for a Scoop" response form and return it to Mrs. Tejan by Tuesday, March 30. Those students will enjoy a "scoop" of ice cream with friends in the library after lunch on Friday, April 2.

The "Scoop for a Scoop" response form is in this Friday's home folder. Enjoy your Spring Break! Enjoy a book!

THANK YOU
to everyone who made our Auction a success
and helping us raise $55,000!

Special thanks to our Kids at the Heart of Sandburg Auction 2010 Underwriters! Because of their generosity, we were able to almost eliminate our costs this year, greatly increasing the amount we can give to Sandburg! Please patronize their websites, or contact them directly--and be sure to thank them when you see them!

 Student Council Supports Sandburg

The student council has been sponsoring a monthly class contest to encourage Terracycle recycling here at Sandburg. We started in December and are excited by the big increase in student participation. Each classroom collects items including corks, juice pouches, granola bar wrappers, and chip bags. These are collected, counted and sorted weekly to be recycled. Then, we send them to Terracycle and they pay us $0.02 per item. We just got our first check from Terracycle for $632.00.

Each month the winning class gets bragging rights and their picture displayed in the south lobby. Mrs. Kearn’s class was the big winner in January. We are very excited about this program. Not only are we making money for our school, but we are learning the importance of recycling.

Go green to support Sandburg!

New items: Malt-0-Meal bags, cell phones, coffee bags, pens/Sharpies/highlighters, Sprout baby food packaging, and Lunchables-type packaging

Check out how recycling programs are bringing money to our school:

Many of you have a mountain of plastic bags growing in your garage/basement. Put March 4 on your calendar as the day to bring those bags to the King Soopers truck parked outside our school. Let’s fill it to the top!
