Welcome to Art Class

Welcome to Art at Sandburg!

As I have told your students, I believe that “art makes you smart!”.  There is so much problem solving, decision making, and thinking outside the box that goes on in our art room.  My hope is that all of my students see themselves as artists.  We will paint, draw, sculpt, and collage our way through the year!  Our theme for the year in art is “WHAT IF…”.  We will connect our projects to what your students are studying in their classrooms and use “what if” statements to stretch our thinking.

Students will learn about many famous artists over the course of the year and we will use their art and techniques to inspire our own art.  New this year, the upper elementary students grades 3-5 have sketchbooks that we will use in the classroom.  They seem very excited to have a special place to record their drawings.

The Cherry Creek Arts Festival MOBILE ART GALLERY

The Cherry Creek Arts Festival and Carl Sandburg Elementary wil host the exhibition of the Mobile art Gallery, a set of original works of art from the Arts Festival's exhibiting artists November 3rd through November 18th and sponsored by Cherry Creek Arts Festival, Janus & SCFD. This is a fabulous opportunity to see proffessional art right in our own school.

Our community night will be November 16th from 6-8pm.  The student docents will be leading tours of the gallery. The kids have such a valuable and authentic opportunity to be leaders, teachers, and  caretakers of the collection.Make sure to plan to visit the Mobile Gallery and stop by the book fair too!
